The Netherlands opened the world’s first PlasticRoad cycle path in Zwolle in 2018. The 30-metre stretch used recycled plastic equivalent to 218,000 plastic cups or 500,000 bottle caps, while sensors tracked temperature, cyclists and the load placed on the path.
