Wang Qingxian: Fostering an industrial and technological ecosystem for smart EVs

On the afternoon of May 22nd, the Seminar on Automobile Industry Development and the Signing Ceremony of Unicorn Rain Forest Cooperative Project of Qingdao was held in Qingdao Municipal Conference Center. Wang Qingxian, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Shandong Provincial Party Committee and Secretary of the CPC Qingdao Municipal Party Committee attended the meeting and made remarks. He mentioned that, Qingdao is an island of youth, a city of entrepreneurship, and an unicorn among all cities. It is necessary to seize the opportunities of artificial intelligence and industrial internet to step up efforts in laying out leading industries for the future, and pool talents, technologies and capitals for the smart EV industry. By doing so, the city can foster an industrial and technological ecosystem for smart energy vehicles and nurture a “Rain Forest” for more and more unicorns.

On the conference, Li Jun, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Chairman of Chinese Automobile Engineering Association, Li Qingwen, Director of Automobile Evaluation Research Institute, Director of Beijing Invisible Unicorn Information and Technology, as well as President of Automobile Brand Clusters in China, together with Xie Shujiang, Deputy Director of Chinese Private Enterprises Research Center of Renmin University of China and Secretary of Conference on Top 500 Global Unicorn Companies, introduced the development of the smart EV industry and the building of scientific and innovative platforms, as well as the plan of Qingdao’s Unicorn Rain Forest Project. All representatives had extensive and in-depth exchanges.

During his remarks, Wang Qingxian expressed appreciation for the support of Lijun and his team to the development of Qingdao. Wang said, to foster an ecosystem for development means to improve the total factor productivity. Qingdao is committed to promoting city development by virtue of the platform thinking and improving business environment with an ecological mind. The city is stepping up efforts to build an ecosystem for the industrial internet featuring the integration of industrial, capital, talents and technological chains.

Smart EV industry is an important part of the industrial internet ecosystem, and an emerging industry for the future of Qingdao. Lijun’s team is well ahead of others both in theories and technologies regarding automobile innovation. Wang hopes that both parties could deepen cooperation by combining the innovative and technological advantages of Li’s team and the strengths of Qingdao in the EV industry and the industrial internet to jointly build a high-end platform for science and innovation. The city will scale up the construction of new infrastructure such as 5G and artificial intelligence, expand application scenarios in Jiaodong Economic Circle and improve the financial resources of Qingdao as a venture capital center and make full use of the market and capitals to build a high land for the smart EV industry.

The policy package will provide important foundations for the development of the automobile industry across Qingdao. On top of this, the city gives full play to the role of industrial platforms. Last year, to promote the development of the EV industry, the city established the Association of New Energy Vehicles and promoted the building of a community of artificial intelligence industries. By virtue of platforms and various resources and strengths, the city realized in-depth integration and development of the automobile industry and AI, Internet of Things and Cloud Computing.

With an increasingly improving industrial environment, we have the reason to be confident on the future of Qingdao.

On the signing ceremony, relevant parties signed a number of agreements. They are: Cooperative Agreement on Jointly Building the Unicorn Rain Forest Project for Qingdao, Cooperative Agreement on the 2020 Conference on Top 500 Global Unicorn Companies, Framework Agreement on the Permanent Holding of the Conference on Top 500 Global Unicorn Companies in Qingdao and Cooperative Agreement on the First Summit on China (Qingdao) Smart EV Innovation and Development Strategies.

NEW YORK — Cynthia Erivo and Greta Gerwig rocked sparkling chokers as the Golden Globes red carpet kicked off Sunday, with Erivo in a hand-beaded custom Thom Browne gown and Gerwig in black and cream. Both went off-shoulder for the big night in Beverly Hills, California. Erivo, the “Harriet” star and fashion standout, said her dress includes designs of her favorite flower, the peony, at the hem and in her lining. The short-sleeve gown, Erivo told E!, took 800 hours. A huge blue stone dropped from her short necklace. Shades of pink had an early trend moment on Kirsten Dunst...

Judge: No slander in Alec Baldwin's comments on parking spat

Jun 1, 2020

NEW YORK — Alec Baldwin didn't slander a man in interviews about a parking dispute that turned physical, a judge has ruled as dueling lawsuits between the actor and the other driver continue. Baldwin's remarks — including claims that Wojciech Cieszkowski's driving was “really fast,” “really aggressive” and made the actor think his wife and son were about to be run over — were "hyperbole" and "rhetorical illustrations," Manhattan judge David B. Cohen wrote Thursday. “They are words of frustration with someone's driving,” not accusations that amount to slander, Cohen wrote. He tossed out Cieszkowski's slander claim, but his assault...

Innovative fashion designers lead the way on sustainability

Jun 1, 2020

LONDON — Innovative fashion designers are turning to such things as horseradish and nettles to make sustainable clothing and accessories to the delight of a growing number of buyers. While more consumers are paying closer attention to how the production of goods impacts the environment, old habits die hard. A buy-and-toss mentality persists despite a boost from celebrities helping to drive the upcycle and vintage movements. Actress Maggie Q, who created an activewear line from recycled fabrics, is among activists who see plenty of room for improvement. She says she feels "sick about fast fashion.'' "You hear people say, 'Well,...

Streep, Miranda and Stone are named as Met Gala co-0chairs

Jun 1, 2020

NEW YORK — Next year's Met Gala may be the closest we'll ever come to getting a Miranda Priestly moment at the starry event. Meryl Streep has been named as a co-chair of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute. The Oscar-winner played Priestly, a thinly veiled fictional version of Vogue editor Anna Wintour, in the movie "The Devil Wears Prada." Wintour clearly has no hard feelings because she selected Streep as a co-chair along with Lin-Manuel Miranda and fellow Oscar-winner Emma Stone. Designer Nicolas Ghesquiere rounds out the group. The gala's theme is "About Time: Fashion and Duration," which...

ABC says interview with Epstein accuser wasn't ready to air

Jun 1, 2020

NEW YORK — ABC News faced questions Tuesday about its reluctance to air a sensitive story of alleged sexual misconduct after a leaked video emerged of reporter Amy Robach complaining about how her bosses handled an interview with a Jeffrey Epstein accuser. The conservative web site Project Veritas released video of Robach venting that "every day I get more and more pissed" that her 2015 interview with Virginia Giuffre never made the air. Robach made her remarks late in August while sitting in a Times Square studio with a microphone but not on the air. ABC said Tuesday that the...
