Missouri Mother Stole and Took Fentanyl and Oxycodone Prescribed to Her Dying Daughter

Temecula, California, September 14, 2018 /The Recover/ —

A Missouri mother is being charged with stealing and using the Pain medication suggested for her terminally ill child.
According to authorities, officers were dispatched to a doctor's workplace on Monday, Sept. 10, where they uncovered issues of neglect and substance abuse related to a young 20-year-old woman who is terminally ill and is supposed to be receiving hospice care.

Police later learned her mother and main caregiver, Carol Ballweg had apparently not been supplying fentanyl and oxycodone prescribed for the woman's discomfort. Police said personnel at the physician's office had made previous "hotline" calls relating to the woman's care and said there were concerns about Ballweg's ask for the prescriptions to be filled sooner than needed.

With the suspension from the staff, they asked for the daughter’s urine sample for screening. A drug screen exposed no signs of the recommended medication in the 20-year-old lady's system, and at that time, her prescriptions were no longer filled.

Physicians also found and alerted cops of bed sores on the victim, and said there was an ongoing examination by the Missouri Department of Health and Elder Solutions.

Cops made contact with DHSS private investigators, who stated they had likewise gotten problems from the woman's house health company regarding the medication concerns.

A search warrant was performed at Ballweg's home on Sept. 11, and at this moment, police stated Ballweg admitted to being addicted to opioids and confessed to taking her daughter's medication and using it herself.

She's been charged with four counts of taking a controlled substance and 2 counts of abuse of an elderly, disabled or vulnerable individual. Money bond was set at $100,000, and Ballweg was ordered by the judge to have no contact with her daughter.

Jefferson Airplane's Kaukonen is still on embryonic journey

Sep 21, 2018

LOS ANGELES — Long before he wrote and recorded the Jefferson Airplane classic "Embryonic Journey," Jorma Kaukonen was on a decades-long journey of discovery of his own. From shy, sometimes bullied upper-class son of a globe-trotting U.S. diplomat in post-colonial Pakistan, Kaukonen would evolve into a hard-drinking, hell-raising teenager racing his motorcycle through the streets of the Philippines in the mid-1950s. Then it was on to a Jesuit university to study Aristotelian logic and other lofty subjects when not playing lead guitar for the Jefferson Airplane, a band he co-founded with Marty Balin, Jack Casady and others and that helped...

LONDON — Comcast and 21st Century Fox will settle their battle for control of broadcaster Sky through a rare auction designed to put an end to months of offers and counteroffers from the American media empires seeking a foothold in the European pay TV market. The auction will begin after the London stock market's close on Friday and end sometime Saturday evening following a maximum of three rounds of bidding, said Britain's regulator, the Takeover Panel. Fox started the bidding war last December, when it sought to acquire the 61 percent of Sky it doesn't already own. Comcast has since...
